I got to go to a screening of Shutter Island last night and I was so excited since I have what seems like forever for this movie to come. After seeing it I'm thinking maybe I should not have been that excited. Don't get me wrong it was not a bad movie just not as good as I thought it was going to be. The acting was great, but I did not expect anything less considering the cast. This was just the type of movie that by the time it ended you were more confused then when it started and you want to watch it again just so you know what is going on. I think this is a movie to wait until it comes to dvd. I was not the only one who thought that either. I was talking to guy that sat by me after it and he thought the same thing!
Stutter island is about two deputy marshals, Teddy (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Chuck (Mark Ruffalo), who are on their way to Stutter Island. They were called out to investigate the disperance of a patient there who just vanished out of her room and they can not find her anywhere on the island. When they get there it seems like everybody is lying and trying to cover something up. Teddy thinks that she had a lot of help to escape and that a doctor who is on vactation is the prime suspect. But when the patient is found everything seems to get a whole lot more complicated. Teddy is trying to find a patient there that killed his wife even though no record of him exisits and to find out what is really happing at Stutter Island.
Like I said the acting was great, but it seemed like there was to much going on which kept you on your toes. If you read the book it will be a little clearer and the movie is very close to the book which is nice becuase now a days it seems like movies don't even consider their source material. The ending is the same as the the book expect for a little something extra which I enjoyed.
